Informed & Supported is Best
One of the first choices a parent is faced with upon the birth of their child is how to feed them. You may hear “breast is best” or “fed is best”, but EBM believes informed and supported is best. There are many factors that play into the decision for how to feed a baby and breastfeeding may not be “best” for everyone’s body or wellbeing.
These materials offer information, education, and support so that parents are empowered to navigate their lactation journey and arrive at a place (wherever that may be) where they feel comfortable and confident.
N.B: We are working on linking and creating multilingual information about pumping, milk storage, formula-feeding, and supplemental feeding methods (i.e. cup or spoon) as well as gender-affirming and body/chestfeeding specific resources.
Materials
A number of reputable websites have translations of breastfeeding information. Breastfeeding videos and telephone helplines are also available in multiple languages.
In the first few days, you and your baby will be getting to know each other. It may take time for both of you to get the hang of breastfeeding.

The Global Health Media Project offers short and informational videos on different breastfeeding scenarios in dozens of languages, including Arabic, French, Spanish, Swahili, Bamanankan, Italian, Khmer, Kinyarwanda, Lao, Malay, Nepali, Slovak, Vietnamese and English among others.
Most small babies take many weeks to develop the skills and strength to effectively breastfeed. These materials show ways you can meet the special challenges of breastfeeding your small baby.
Michigan Medicine’s guide on Feeding Plan for Infants Born Before 38 Weeks or Small for Gestational Age (Below 10th Percentile) is available in Arabic (العربية), Chinese Simplified (Mandarin dialect) (简体中文), Japanese (日本語), Korean (한국어), and Spanish (español).
